How Much will it cost?

Membership only is £50.00 per season for Adults, £25.00 per season for Juniors.
BCU 1 Star Beginners Course cost is £60.00 per adult and £40.00 per child.


What craft can I learn in?

Penzance Canoe Club have a wide range of craft including general Purpose Boats, Surf Boats, Canoes, Sea Kayaks, Race Boats, Polo Boats and Sit on Tops. If you have your own craft, you can use that too.

How do I Join?

If you have not paddled before please contact the Introduction Course Coordinator and sign up for our beginners course.


If you are under 18 yrs old we will require a Parental Consent Form PDF Format (open and print) before you can attend a taster session or a beginners course.


I have paddled before, can I join?

If you are an Adult and have Paddled before or if you have a recognised BCU Paddle Award you can contact the club and ask to come down for a taster session (£5.00 fee) as a club visitor. You can attend a maximum of three taster session after which you must join or leave the club.


If you are under 18 yrs old we will require a Parental Consent Form PDF Format (open and print) before you can attend a taster session or a beginners course.


I am interested in a canoe course?

Penzance Canoe Club only offer beginners Courses to the general public, for all other courses you must be a member of the club.

Penzance Canoe Club only offer beginners Courses to the general public, for all other courses you must be a member of the club.


When is the next beginners course?

Please contact the Introduction Course Coordinator and sign up for our beginners course. You will be contacted with course information and added to our waiting list. Courses run from April through to the end of July. All courses are run by our qualified coaches in their free time so a specific date cannot be given right now.


I don't have a boat, a paddle...?

The club offer a wide variety of craft to paddle and club members can hire all the equipment they require to paddle safely on the water. Hire cost is from £3.00 for club sponsored session for club members and £5.00 for club visitors.


Boats, Paddles, Personal Flotation Aids, Helmets, Cagoules and Spray Decks are all available in Adult and Child sizes.


My child is 11yrs old, can s/he join?

Children between the ages of 11 and 18 are welcome at the club as Junior members. Before joining we will require a Parent or Guardian to sign a consent form authorising the child to take part in club events and authorising the club to arrange emergency medical attention if required.


My child is 10yrs old, can s/he join?

Children under the age of 11 are welcome at the club as Minors . Before joining we will require a Parent or Guardian to sign a consent form authorising the child to take part in club events and authorising the club to arrange emergency medical attention if required.


IMPORTANT: The minor must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian at all times when attending club events. The Parent or Guardian must also be a competent paddler.


What does the membership cost include?

Membership includes access to the club facilities which include changing rooms and showers.

Use of club equipment for a small hire fee.

Friday night social paddle.

Monthly sea excursion for 2 star sea kayak paddles.

Invites to all other club events such as Club BBQ, Winter Pool Sessions, Surf Sessions, River Paddles, Ice Cream Paddles, Camping and other events.

Limited Club Insurance cover.

Up to 15% discount on Paddlesport equipment at some selected stores in Cornwall.


What times and days would the course be on?

Beginners courses can be scheduled to meet the groups requirements. We try to run the course on a Sat and Sunday evening from 6.30pm to 9.00pm with a final assessment on the following Friday Club Night.


However, coach availability and student availability may mean that the course could be on a Monday afternoon or Wednesday evening, it will all depend on when the coach has time to volunteer and your specific availability.


I can't swim, can I join?

Candidates must be water confident and ideally should be able to swim. This is desirable but not essential for the BCU 1 Star Award.


Can I just do a 1 Star course and not join the club?

Yes you can. Contact the Introduction Course Coordinator

Does the club hire kayaks?

Yes we hire Canoes, Kayaks and equipment to all club members.
Costs are from £3.00 for club sponsored events.  

£5.00 for a day hire on club events, club members only.

£10.00 for an all day non club event club members only.


Can you tell me what days or evenings you meet?

The club meets every Friday night from April to October at 6.00pm. Other club meetings will be posted on the Club Events Calendar.
